About Article Desk

We have been around since October 2006. We tried a few different scripts but most of the time we used the ArticleDashboard one, which we are using now. When we first got the directory up to around fifteen or twenty thousand articles, we began to be concerned about the amount of server resources that it used. So we looked through the ArticleDashboard forum. There was lots of advice there about what to do. One of the posts gave advice about optimising the database so that is would run faster and use less of the server's processing power. Just what we wanted. So, we acted on this. I can't remember now what the advice was. It was a big mistake. The database was never right since. The reason I can attribute the problems with the database to this is that I have another ArticleDashboard site with nearly a hundred thousand articles, the database of which we did not alter in any way, and it is running without any problems. You live and learn. Right?

So we had to abandon the original Article Desk database of aproximately one hundred thousand articles. Yes we struggled on that far. It kept crashing the server and nearly had our account terminated many times. The site ran slow and never got any page rank etc. So we tried one or two other scripts some paid and some free, and discovered that there is nothing as good as the ArticleDashboard script which has been in operation on many sites for many years now.

If you are aware of a good script that you think might rival this one, fine, let us know and we may try it on another site some day. But, this site will always be an ArticleDashboard site from here on.

But now we hope to get back to where we were. Hundreds of visitors per day and hundreds of quality articles submitted per day.
