Why Women Divorce Men

Marriage has many dimensions that fulfil the emotional, psychological, financial and physical needs of people. No wonder, this oldest relationship invented by man is still the most popular and going strong. To make a marital relationship successful, both husband and wife have to discharge well the duties and responsibilities assigned to them. Both have many expectations and aspirations from the relationship. If these remain unmet, there is a strong chance that marriage will disintegrate and lead to divorce.

So what do women want from marriage? Mainly they are looking for security – emotional, physical and financial. If a man provides all three – and some intimacy in-between – the marriage will remain rock-solid. There are many things about men, though, that may prompt her to file for divorce.

Infidelity

Infidelity is something no wife would ever tolerate in a marriage. This is because her husband’s extra-marital affairs shake the foundation of her entire world. Suddenly, the marriage starts looking unstable and she gets insecure about her future and that of her children. Apart from this insecurity is the emotional trauma. Infidelity of one’s spouse pains because it is a betrayal of trust.

Cheating destroys the foundation of dependability and faith that is the bedrock of a successful marriage, and replaces them with suspicion and anger. After an extra-marital affair has been discovered, the relationship is never the same again. Few marriages are able to emerge unscathed from the after-effects of infidelity. Most of them head straight for divorce.

Financial Problems

Since ancient times, all marital relationships have followed a rough division of labour. Under this, the wife stays at home and takes care of daily household chores such as rearing children, cooking food and tending to the laundry. The man of the house, on the other hand, is responsible for bringing home the bacon. He remains out of the house in daytime doing a job and returns in the evening after a hard day’s work.

However, what if the man does not earn enough to meet the needs of the family or fulfil the high aspirations of his wife? That is when the trouble starts. Money is needed to meet household expenses and maintain a decent standard of life and social status. Financial scarcity is a major reason why a woman may divorce a man and go in search of another partner who can afford the lifestyle she wants for herself and her children.

Physical Frustration

The intimate side of relationships is a basic human need that has to be fulfilled at regular intervals. Love-making has many physical and emotional benefits. It makes your skin glow, burns up calories and stretches every muscle in your body. On the psychological side, it is a cure for mild depression and headaches and acts like a powerful tranquiliser. Physical relations are a tonic that every marital relationship needs to stay healthy.

It is a myth that women have a lesser physical urge than men. They also need intimacy and regular phycial relations to feel good about marriage. The lack of physical intimacy drive in man and his disinterest in taking his wife to bed is one of the prominent reasons why the latter may decide to call it a day and file for divorce.

Drugs and Alcoholism

In marriage, all women wish for a life partner whom they can trust and depend upon. They want to feel emotionally nurtured and expect the man to fulfil all familial obligations such as providing financial and physical security to her and her kids.

However, this arrangement is jeopardised when the husband takes to substance abuse or alcoholism. Gradually, due to the force of these habits, he becomes totally unproductive and worthless and spends more time and money lying around in a stupor. Women prefer getting rid of such husbands through divorce and look for better men who can be good partners and fathers.

Physical Abuse

When women get married, they expect to be protected and nurtured by their husbands so that they can grow and expand their personalities. But the entire marital atmosphere is vitiated when the element of physical abuse enters the equation. Men who beat women suffer from some psychological problems and are not mentally healthy.

They often suffer from low self-esteem and try to get a sense of power and control by beating someone who cannot hit back. Husbands who beat wives usually do not spare the children too. Chronic and consistent physical abuse is a very strong motivation for women to file for divorce and save their bodies as well as dignity.
