Lost Wallet: Preventions

More often than not , wallets and purses are items that are being aimed for by thieves or robbers. This is to say , wallet theft is one of the most common crimes in every city or state worldwide. Apart from theft, lost wallet can be caused by personal misplacement or slipping from bags or pockets. However, there are several ways that you can do if your wallet gets lost or before it can be lost.

You should ensure that you have a copy of everything you have inside your wallet, which may include identification cards and credit cards. It can be easier for you to replace those cards when your wallet gets stolen or lost. You should also consider making copies of the card numbers and expiration dates of the cards. This would make it easier for you to report the cards since banks need the numbers to verify information. As soon as you have made the copies, leave it at home for safe keeping instead of carrying the copies around along with your wallet.

It is also advisable to keep the cards or any important item that you usually place in your wallet at home especially if you do not use them often. Say, if you have a credit card, bring it along with you only if you are planning to make a purchase. Otherwise, leave your card behind in a safe area at home. Thus, in case of lost wallet incident, you would not have to worry about your card.

Another type of card that most people usually put in their wallet is their Social Security card. The Social Security card is very appealing and useful to thieves since it contains information about your accounts. Anybody who finds your wallet with your Social Security card can gain access to your account and make a new credit. It is already very painful to lose your credit card and driver's license but even more difficult to lose your Social Security card. Thus, leave these cards behind when not in use to avoid disseminating personal information in case of lost wallet.

Apart from cards, you should also make sure that you keep your personal identification numbers or passwords to yourself unless it is very necessary to give such information to someone. Some people write their personal identification numbers and passwords in a piece of paper and put them inside their wallets. Consequently, in case of lost wallet, their credit cards and ATM cards can easily be used by whoever takes their wallet. Therefore, it is not advisable to write such information. It is best to memorize passwords.

Finally, you should also consider an insurance policy to make things easier for you in case of lost wallet. Although there is no insurance policy that would replace the entire wallet, you can file for identity theft insurance policies or plans, which can also help you recover some of what you have lost.
